A couple staying in a B&B meet someone they think they know all about, but their prejudices are exposed as we discover how easy it is for one moment to change everything. Sunny Side Up explores the choices available to different guests at bed and breakfast hotels up and down the country – irrespective of their wealth, status or class
Scene Sessions - 12th September 2020
.Scene Sessions staged an online performance of "Sunny Side Up" on Zoom during the 2020 Lockdown. Scene Sessions is a free online platform run by "The Megs", Meg Matthews and Meg McCarthy, to help writers develop new material and keep actors connected and working with material during the 2020/21 Pandemic.

New Dreams Theatre - August 2018
New Dreams Theatre is an innovative theatre company, founded by Kevin Russell in 1997, with an aim to present quality productions at top London fringe theatres.
As well as working with established talent, New Dreams takes great pride in showcasing the latest up-and-coming fresh faces to our industry. New Dreams Theatre built on previous successes to stage "Time for something new" - three separate two-night performances of new writing of various lengths over three months, at The Bread & Roses Theatre, Clapham - a top London fringe theatre.
"Sunny Side Up" was performed by the New Dreams Theatre on 5th and 6th August 2018.
Contexture Theatre Company - February 2019
"Sunny Side Up" was performed by Contexture Theatre at the Rhodes Arts Complex, Bishops Stortford on 5th February 2019.
Contexture was born out of a love for theatre and a desire to bring professionally produced plays to Bishop’s Stortford in Hertfordshire.
Launched in October 2013 with a repertory season of three plays, the company has establishedn a year-round programme of productions offering audiences a wide range of styles and genres - classical to modern, comedy to tragedy, and everything in between.
As well as producing plays, they work with schools and provide a comprehensive education programmes to support their work. They also offer in-school workshops; adult drama classes and present a series of masterclasses that demonstrate theatrical techniques.
Write Here Write Now is the annual Herts & Essex Festival of Playwriting produced by Contexture. It aims to inspire and nurture new writing talent in the area. In February 2019, 24 plays by local playwrights were staged by professional directors with local actors over 5 nights at 3 mainstream theatres in Bishops Stortford, Harlow and Hertford. Each night, the audience voted on the winner to go through to the Grand Final in Hertford.
Steyning Festival, May-June 2018
Rehearsed Readings of "Sunny Side Up" were given at the Steyning Festival on Sunday 27th May and Sunday 3rd June 2018 as one of four contrasting plays covering political issues, family dynamics, complex relationships and futurist comedy. They were performed at four different locations around the town, within easy walking distance of each other. A lunch with the writers and performers was provided for the audience in the Steyning Bookshop marquee between the second and third plays. There was also a Question and Answer session with the writers and performers at the end of the day.
The Festival is a Community Festival that brings a fortnight of diverse, high quality programmed events to Steyning -incorporating a Quality Artistic Festival with a complementary and supportive programme of events.
The genres cover Theatre, Music, Visual Arts, Walks & Tours, Literature and Talks, and Community Events.
Putney Theatre Company, May 2018
The Putney Theatre Company staged "Sunny Side Up" as part of its "Fate Expectations" New Writing Project, held over 5 nights between 22nd - 26th May 2018, at Putney Arts Theatre.
"Fate Expectations" explored how the journey of 'Rags to Riches' could play out for any character - emotionally, physically, maybe even geographically - changing their own and other people’s expectations.
Showcasing 7 short pieces that looked at how and why people's lives change - either for better, or for worse - each piece revolved around a key turning point or moment in the life of someone who's life was destined to change. Focusing on the ever-widening gap between rich and poor in society, and how one situation can change everything. Directed and produced by Putney Theatre Company's membership.
Falling Pennies Theatre Company - May 2018
The Falling Pennies Theatre Company are theatremakers who champion new writing, Their fifth new writing night, "On The Night", was staged over two separate nights, with different performances being staged on each night, at the Etcetera Theatre, Camden High Street, London
Each night comprised four 20 - 30 minute plays, all with the theme of "Equality & Revolution".
"Sunny Side Up" was performed by Falling Pennies on 28th May 2018.
Alan's mentor, Jonathan Skinner, also had one of his plays, "Common Ground", staged as part of "On the Night" on 21st May 2018
